The USA, UK and China were the leaders in outbound travel growth in 2015, according to a new report by the World Tourism Organization. Overall, international tourism increased worldwide by 4.4%.

Europe London

One of the winners for global visitors – Europe

The UNWTO World Tourism Barometer found 50 million more tourists were traveling to international destinations in 2014 than they did in 2015, reports Global Travel Industry News. This is the 6th consecutive year of above-average growth since the financial crisis in 2010.

“The robust performance of the sector is contributing to economic growth and job creation in many parts of the world. It is thus critical for countries to promote policies that foster the continued growth of tourism, including travel facilitation, human resources development and sustainability,” said UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai.

The report also noted that growth is projected to increase another 4% in 2016. Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas are projected to have a 4 to 5% increase in visitors and Europe, a 3.5 to 4.5% increase. Even Africa and the Middle East are projected to grow by 2 to 5%, although there is a greater degree of uncertainty and volatility to those destinations.

In 2015 it was European tourism that grew the greatest with 29 million more visitors in 2015 than in 2014, in part because of the weaker Euro. Asia and the Pacific tracked a total of 277 million visitors, and 54 million more people visited the Middle East.

China

But who saw the greatest influx of visitors?
