Chicago air traffic control center will be restored by mid-Oct

FAA officials do not expect to the air-traffic control center that suffered a fire on Friday to be restored until Oct. 13 as flight disruptions continue at O’Hare and Midway international airports, Yahoo! News reports.

A basement fire set by field technician forced an evacuation of the FAA air traffic control center in Aurora, Illinois,on Friday, affecting more than 2,100 flights across the country. Another 1,100 flights were cancelled on Saturday, and more than 600 flights were cancelled on Sunday.

Harris Corp., a FAA telecommunication contractor, is working around the clock to install new equipment and conduct repairs to the Aurora facility.

“Our team is on site working 24/7 with the (FAA) to install new equipment and restore service to full capacity as quickly as possible,” Jim Burke, Harris Corp. spokesman, said in a statement.

Air France to resume flying Tuesday

Air France pilots have ended their two-week strike, though no agreement has been reached between Air France and the pilots’ union, according to Travel Mole.

Pilots’ union SNPL called off the strike, so negotiations could “continue in a calmer climate,” reports the BBC.

The strike cost the airline hundreds of millions of euros and cancelled flights through Monday. Previously, Air France ended its plans to expand its low-budget airline Transavia in regional hubs across Europe, which was the catalyst of the strike.
