Odds Are Your Customers Want to See a New Destination This Summer; and They May Be Thinking Europe: Survey

More than half of travelers plan to visit a new destination this summer, and sightseeing will likely be on their mind more than relaxing on a beach or other activities, according to  a recent survey.

In a targeted survey that polled a group of U.S. travelers who either researched or purchased travel insurance within the past 18 months — the vast majority of which were planning to travel this summer — InsureMyTrip found 55% of those polled planned to visit a new destination. Additionally, 50% mentioned sightseeing as the top activity they plan to enjoy this summer. Well behind, going to the beach or relaxing was the second-most popular response at 23%.

Survey respondents prefer staying in hotels (42%) to going on a cruise (25%), staying in a vacation rental (18%), staying with family or friends (10%), or using a timeshare (4%).

InsureMyTrip, teaming up with pricing app Hopper, also researched travel trends this summer and found more Americans are booking trips to Europe this summer, taking advantage of favorable exchange rates. The UK, France, and Italy topped the list of most popular international destinations, and the Netherlands placed fifth. The Caribbean was fourth.
