Sandals Emerald Bay Extended General Manager Interview

What are your daily duties at the resort?
My duties are so varied which makes it so interesting! Sandals Emerald Bay is a large, 500-acre resort with 345 rooms and suites, a Greg Norman-designed championship golf course and a fabulous marina. With 600 team members looking after our guests, there is never a dull moment.

Outside of your daily duties, what are your longer term responsibilities?
The Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International, does so much in the local communities where we operate.

Jeremy Mutton has been the General Manager at Sandals Emerald Bay in Great Exuma, Bahamas for over two years, bringing his hospitality expertise to the gorgeous hotel.

Do you have anything new and exciting in the works for the coming year?
The latter part of last year, we constructed new fire pits around the resort and they have received rave reviews. They provide such an intimate and romantic setting; the sky at night is quite spectacular on Great Exuma, so to see the couples stargazing beside the fire pits is very special. For this reason we will be adding more of these features over the next few months.

Where is your favorite place to eat at the resort? Why?
I particularly enjoy La Parisienne, or French find dining restaurant that opened last year and serves authentic and inspiring dishes created by our very own French Chef. Oftentimes, you can also find me at our Oceanside restaurant Barefoot by the Sea, enjoying Bahamian conch fritters complimented by a spicy dip, a real Bahamian experience!

Which room category do you suggest for honeymooners?
One of our guests’ favorite suites is our Prime Minister Beachfront Suite. It’s simply breathtaking. No matter where you’re sitting in the suite, the sweeping views of the brilliant sea are everywhere. The white sand beach is literally outside your floor-to-ceiling glass door, so when you awake in the morning, you can see why you came to Sandals Emerald Bay. Walk right outside and you’re living the dream.

Every detail has been considered, from the mahogany-stained furnishings with elegant embellishments, to the natural stone floors accented with custom area rugs. The master bedroom is incredibly spacious, with a walk-in closet and a bathroom that features a modern interpretation of Georgian Style. The separate living area even features a dining table for en-suite dining brought to you, of course, by your butler, one of Sandals’ most unique and sought-after inclusions. Believe me, I can’t tell you how many guests have tried to take their butler home with them!

Is the Greg Norman designed golf course a big selling point for travelers?
Absolutely! The golf course is very challenging, but the ocean views overlooking the back nine are incredible! Guests often comment how nice it is to have a golf course located on the resort.

Describe the marine life and how it’s perfect for SCUBA and snorkeling. Is this a big attraction for guests?
It’s a one-of-a-kind experience to dive and snorkel here. We have some great sites within close proximity to the resort and guests compare the diving here to some of the best spots in the world.

What is one thing that sets this resort apart from other Sandals properties?
Yes, this is a resort of the highest caliber, offering our guests true five-star Luxury Included experiences, but it isn’t stuffy, that’s not the Sandals way. The experience is about taking off your shoes, walking in the sand and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of a mile-long beach and the clearest, most turquoise waters I’ve ever seen. What makes Sandals Emerald Bay so unique is that it combines sophisticated luxury with a casual elegance that speaks to the tranquility of this incredible destination and the warmth of its local culture.
